Ivan’s success story how to get a job. Ivan is from another country, and he came to the US in 2004. He lives in Miami without friends and family. Ivan had no idea what to do, but he had a strong Christian faith, and he went to Church the first week he came to America. At Church, Ivan met a man who owned a construction company and he hired him on the spot. Isn’t that great?
Ivan worked for this gentleman, building houses for this construction company, but unfortunately, the construction company closed in 2011 due to the economy. So, building houses is the only job that Ivan had for the past seven years, living in America. So, Ivan was faced with so many different challenges. He didn’t know what he was going to do next and where he was going to go. And the other thing that topped the whole thing off – his house was in danger of being foreclosed.
So, Ivan would make a little bit of money by fixing like broken toilets every now and then. You know, like small jobs for friends that he met at Church. The money that he earned, he used all of it on his cellphone to keep his cellphone on, of course, you know, just in case he got a call for a job. Ivan had no computer skills, so sending him information by email is out of the question. So, after creating his résumé, a stack of copies was mailed to his home. See, the latitude and positive attitude go a long way. Ivan was ecstatic to receive the bundle of résumés and he started his job search right away.
As soon as he got a job lead, he would jump on it right away, like immediately, while doing the odd jobs, of course, to keep the phone on. A staffing agency was recommended to Ivan, so he contacted them and he landed a job, working in a manufacturing plant full-time, forty hours a week, plus overtime with benefits. Ivan used job coaching, networking, and being consistent to get a job. So, from beginning to end, it took Ivan a little over two months to get hired.
