Recruiter Now Career Coach

HR professional, Andrea Rosenthal share resume Tips2GetaJob on a segment of the radio show called ‘Rescue My Resume’. This is excerpts from my recent interview.

Resumes do not need to be more than two pages. There are a few exceptions to the rule but there is no exact number for experience. You want to keep the resume around one or two pages depending on the level of work experience. At the top of a resume your contact information needs to be a font size large enough for the reader to see clearly. The format of your resume is important. Example of good headings to have on your resume is summary of qualifications with related experience, an area for education and community involvement.

Most job seekers want to put on a resume all the work they have ever done leaving the recruiter unsure of what type of work the job seeker is looking for. Only add a few things on your resume under each position that are important towards the job. Use the least amount of words for the most impact. Make your resume clear and concise, so the hiring manager has no doubt of what value you can bring to the company.

Include the job title of the position you’re looking for along with why you’re qualified for the job when using the summary of qualifications heading on your resume.

If you have had a lot of job transitions in a short period of time indicate if the positions were internships, temporary, part-time or contract. Also, consider writing in your cover letter the reason for changing jobs frequently. The first thing recruiters look for on a resume is not if the job seeker is a good fit but, how can I get rid of them. So, don’t make it easy on the hiring manager or recruiter to not consider you for the position.

Companies want to see the difference you made with your current and/or previous employers on your resume. Bullet points in the work experience area of your resume need to be accomplishment statements, valued contributions and result oriented. Oh we can’t forget your uniqueness. You got to add to your resume what makes you uniquely qualified for the position and different from the other job seekers.
