Want to Find Your Passion? Get Quiet First

October 29, 2011 by Jacqui Washington, MBA No Comments »

Many moms are looking for a passion (other than their kids). If you find your passion, the money often follows. But to find what you’re passionate about, you must begin by slowing down. That means taking time for yourself to do things that you find enjoyable, like reading a book, lighting candles, taking a bubble bath, listening to jazz and even a quiet walk in the park. Engaging in these activities help strengthen your mind, body and spirit. You may find that taking care of yourself will change your perspective and encourage having an open mind to innovative ideas and new opportunities

Over-Qualified? Here’s How to Respond

October 26, 2011 by Jacqui Washington, MBA No Comments »

In this tough economy, being over-qualified could be the reason why you’re not getting a call back for a job interview. How you present yourself to potential employers is very important. Some employers may think that too many credentials and too much experience can mean you’re going to want too much money. Job seekers need to be in charge of connecting the dots for potential employers. For example, on a resume show the employer that you’re an asset. In the cover letter, address how you can reach, achieve and even go above and beyond the qualifications the employer is seeking to add value.

Can recruiters find you on & offline?

October 25, 2011 by Jacqui Washington, MBA No Comments »

When job seeking, in order to be found you need to be visible both online and offline. If the company you want to work for is having an event open to the public, you need to be there. There is an organization or association for almost every industry, so Google it. Become a member and participate in the organization’s event. If you feel the fee is too high, then ask if you can volunteer. Look for blogs in your industry and post comments. Create a blog, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter account. Follow the companies you’re interested in on social media platforms. Get on their radar screen!
