Brandy in North Carolina sent her question to us from LinkedIn. She wants to know how she can write a cover letter that will get read. Be different, do whatever job seekers are not doing. Don’t cookie cut your cover letters. One thing you can consider doing is instead of sending your cover letter via email type it, print it out and mail it. Think of it this way, when you get mail out of the mailbox and you see a legal size envelope and a small square shape envelope. Which one would you open first? Click Tips2GetaJob Podcast and listen to the rest of the show!
In this episode, here’s what we’ll cover:
Be different, do what other job seekers are not doing
Mail cover letter
Address the cover letter to a specific person
Get a referral, name drop
Explain how you learn about the opportunity
Match your qualifications to job listing
Research skills the employers’ want
Close by asking to talk with the hiring manager briefly
Why no response after I sent a follow up? The purpose of the follow up due to a job application or an interview. If you followed up after a job application and sent it by email the issue maybe what you put in the subject line. If your statement in the subject line is general and not something that will make the reader want to open the email, that’s what you’ll get (delete) not read. Click Tips2GetaJob Podcast to hear the rest of the show.
In this episode, here’s what we’ll cover:
Reason for following up
Decide to send via email or mail
Make your subject line grab the reader’s attention
Send the follow up letter to a specific person
Have a professional email address
Create an email address without numbers and symbols
Eliminate the possibility of age discrimination
Now we want to hear from you click comment and share, one reason why you think a job seeker didn’t get a response after following up with an employer
